💡 FAQ
- What happens to my old school's chatroom after I switch schools?
Your old school's chatroom won't be removed and you won't be kicked out — you can still open it to view messages and chat. Your nickname and label in that chatroom will stay exactly as they were when you joined, and won't change just because you switched schools.
⚠️ You won't be able to find or join your old school's other chatrooms from the "Discover" lobby anymore — the lobby only shows the chatroom for your currently set school. To get back to your old chatroom, open it from the chatroom list on the "Messages" page instead. - What's the difference between the Main Group and Sub-groups?
The "Main Group" is your school's campus-wide chatroom — like a bulletin board that everyone can view and post in. "Sub-groups" are real-time chatrooms centered on a specific topic, such as a dorm or a course discussion. Both types require you to join before you can post, and are currently all created officially by Dcard! - Can I join anonymously? Can other people see my real information?
Yes, you can join without setting a nickname and just use your anonymous "{School Name} #1234" label.
Even if you do set a custom nickname, other members can only see your nickname and anonymous school ID within that chatroom — they can't see any of your Dcard account information. - Can I change my nickname? Will it change my old messages?
Yes. Once you're in the chatroom, tap the "⋯" menu in the top-right corner and select "Edit Nickname" to change it. After you update it, your previous messages in that chatroom will also show your new nickname, but your ID number won't change. - How do I leave a chatroom?
Open the chatroom, tap the "⋯" menu in the top-right corner, and select "Leave Group". - Why am I not getting notifications?
The Main Group doesn't send push notifications — you'll only see a red dot on the "Messages" tab when there are new messages. Also, if you've muted a chatroom, you won't receive notifications from it either.
